Poetic Winter Photography Challenge: Calm

February 24th, 2012

Winter has been particularly brutal this year, here in small town Missouri.

Dark

Dreary

Bitter cold

A little unsettling, even.

I’ve been restless for the last few weeks; searching for something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Rest?

Solitude?

Purpose?

Or maybe just a moment to be still.

Nothing is quite as calming to my spirit as a snowy day.

I braved the cold temperatures and headed out in the snow last week, just my camera and me. As each flake drifted ever so slowly to the ground, settling softly ‘nary a sound, those nagging feelings of unrest that had taken up residence in my soul began to leave.

Slowly.

One snowflake at a time.

And in its place, a sense of calm, peace and tranquility.

A reminder that even in the bitterest of winters, beauty remains.

As does hope.

Because no matter how dark, dreary and bitter cold these days may seem, like seasons, these feelings of unrest will come to pass.

The sun will shine. The snow will melt.

And hope will arrive on wings. With it, peace, calm and tranquility.

Poetic Winter Photography Challenge: Passion

What point is there in living if you do so timidly; guarded and hesitant about your thoughts, emotions and actions? Life is about living, loving and moving through this great big world of ours, not timidly, but boldly, passionately and out loud. Dance like no one’s watching. Sing, laugh out loud. Backyard Winter Wonderland

Backyard Winter Wonderland {Wordless/Wordful Wednesday}

We’ve been buried under a few inches of snow here in small town Missouri for the last two days. So I did what any photographer would do. I braved the freezing temperatures and bitter cold winds to take a few photos of my Backyard Winter Wonderland. And boy am I glad that I did! I walked away with some great shots. And I walked away...

Poetic Winter Photography Challenge: Warmth

Small town Missouri is dreary and cold around this time of year. Going outdoors is a bit of a chore. No more running out the door at the spur of the moment. One must be prepared, bundled up. Because despite the chill in the air, there’s still so much beauty to be discovered. Even in overgrown fields. And along the back roads of rural Missouri, where...

Poetic Winter Photography Challenge: Solitude

There’s nothing I find more freeing in life than solitude. Pin It During those treasured moments of reflection and silence, my heart beats its loudest, my mind is free of noise and my eyes become clear. And the muddy waters of ugliness in our world recede, revealing a beauty like no other. I slipped away for a few hours the other day in search of...
