Previously on Parenting 101, I touched on the importance of never leaving your toddler unattended and teaching your toddler mealtime manners. This time around, I’m focusing on the importance of hair and skin care…

Parenting Tip No. 3 Teach your children the ins and outs of proper hair and skin care early on.

Let’s face it, caring for one’s hair and skin is an important life skill that we all need, children included. Teaching them the ins and outs of proper hair and skin care not only lays a solid foundation of self-sufficiency, but they’ll reap the rewards of flawless skin and beautifully soft hair in the process.

Flawless skin and shiny hair

Skincare: Emphasize the importance of keeping one’s face free of dirt and oil.

Equally as important: spaghetti sauce, potato chip grease and mashed-up Oreo cookies should never be applied to the face as a mask.

Skin care no-no

Haircare: A little bit of shampoo and conditioner goes a long way.

Leave in conditioners work wonders on dry, limp hair. However Play-Doh, macaroni and cheese and strawberry yogurt are a pain in the butt to rinse out.

Yogurt is a horrible leave-in conditioner

Don’t ask. Just trust.

Armed with these tips, your child is sure to enjoy a lifetime of flawless skin, shiny hair and a promising future as Miss America someday.

Guaranteed.
