Style Tips: Creating Affordable Style for Your Toddler
May 20th, 2011…………………….
I’m pretty sure that my parents hated me. I mean really, look at this outfit. What were they thinking?
Go ahead, laugh. Your parents probably hated you too. Don’t believe me? Look at your old photo albums.
Though I spent most of my childhood as a walking billboard for How-Not-To-Dress-Your-Child, you’ve got to admit that I looked pretty darn cute - chubby little neck roll and all. Despite major fashion set-backs and unfortunate style mishaps, I’ve grown into quite the stylish woman.
As a mother of 4 children ranging from toddler to teens, I’m an expert of sorts when it comes to creating stylish outfits on a budget. I’m all about mixing and matching pieces to create several unique looks. Quality, style, affordability and fit are extremely important to me and I refuse to sacrifice one for the other.
I also refuse to dress my children in ridiculous clothing that’ll someday cause them to question my sanity love for them, all for the sake of saving a buck.
Thanks to Old Navy, I’m kicking up the style factor, maximizing my dollar and my kids are rocking some seriously stylish looks.
My 2-year old daughter, Alana, is growing into quite the fashionista if I do say so myself.

This tiered tulle tutu is sugary sweet and priced at only $10. Paired with a few of Alana’s favorite pieces, it’s also perfect for playing, twirling and heck, if your little girl is anything like mine, it’s perfect for gardening in too!
Here are a few ways you can save a few bucks, score some cool points and avoid traumatizing your children with hideous outfits from their childhood:
- Hand-me-downs. Well-made and cared for clothing will often last through a few kids’ wear. Team up with a friend who has children around the same age and you’ll never run out of hand-me-down options.
- Create a variety of looks for less by shopping for separates. I love shopping for separates. The style possibilities are endless and mixing and matching are so much fun.
- Scour for clearance items in-store and online. I can’t tell you how many great deals I’ve found by looking through clearance items. Though some of the items are out-of-season, it’s a great way to stock up on some deeply-discounted essentials.
- Use the power of the internet to save money. Search for coupons and discount codes online. Sign up to receive exclusive discounts via email from your favorite online retailer and “like” their Facebook fan page as well. Sites like Ebates even offer cash back on your purchases.
