Using Photos on Your Blog

There’s just no denying the importance of photographs in blog posts. They add visual appeal, evoke emotion and bridge the gap between writer and reader.

Photos like this one have the power to pull people in and create emotional connections like no other.

"Mom, my tooth is loose!"

More and more, bloggers and website owners are looking to the internet in search of relevant photos to include in their articles and posts. But many are still uncertain about the legalities, or dos and don’ts, of using photos found on the internet.

I’m over at Eli Rose Social Media today, talking with owners Kristin and Liz about the legal use of photos found online. I’m answering a few common online photo use questions, including how to properly show credit for photos and more. I’d love for you to stop by.

Ha- I was just reading this over there on Eli Rose – I’m glad that you are talking about this. I have been in some deep discussions with my bloggy friends about the whole legalities of things like Pinterest. It’s so hard. I love it there. But really- if one is only really legally aloud to pin their own images- then what’s the point of the network existing. They may as well shut it down. We came to the idea that if a blogger has a Pinterest account or has a “pin it” button on their post- then they are a participant of the site & then that is giving permission to obviously pin the images. I now have a policy to not pin unless the button is there & I am much more cautious about what I re-pin too. I also removed a good portion of my pins just in case. Slippery slope.

Great post. I found one of my photos for sale on a photo website! Hard lesson to learn. Now I make sure all of my images have my watermark on them. I still have several hundred photos on my blog to go back and replace with watermarked images. Hugs! Happy WW.I hope you’ll join us at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop linky party tomorrow.
