Poetic Winter Photography Challenge: Calm

Winter has been particularly brutal this year, here in small town Missouri.

Dark

Dreary

Bitter cold

A little unsettling, even.

I’ve been restless for the last few weeks; searching for something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Rest?

Solitude?

Purpose?

Or maybe just a moment to be still.

Nothing is quite as calming to my spirit as a snowy day.

I braved the cold temperatures and headed out in the snow last week, just my camera and me. As each flake drifted ever so slowly to the ground, settling softly ‘nary a sound, those nagging feelings of unrest that had taken up residence in my soul began to leave.

Slowly.

One snowflake at a time.

And in its place, a sense of calm, peace and tranquility.

A reminder that even in the bitterest of winters, beauty remains.

As does hope.

Because no matter how dark, dreary and bitter cold these days may seem, like seasons, these feelings of unrest will come to pass.

The sun will shine. The snow will melt.

And hope will arrive on wings. With it, peace, calm and tranquility.

Oh Kristi- I am so in love with that second shot. I’m just sucked in- waiting to see where that next flake will land. I can almost hear the wonderful silence that comes during the snowfall.

these are so lovely! I so wanted to get photos of it snowing – yesterday, right when it started I had to pick up my daughter from school, so no roaming about the forest preserve for me. Later it was raining so the pretty flakes were gone. It started snowing again at 11pm, but all the kiddos were sleeping and I couldn’t leave them alone! (here’s to hoping there is more snow – but only so I can take photos hee hee)

Oh! The second shot from the last is perfection. Water is so equal to calm for me. I am surrounded by 8 different lakes in my home town, and I adore being around the water even if it is frozen over. All of these pictures are like eye candy. Nature really is the best inspiration.

Beautiful captures, Kristi
