Big Teeth and All… (Wordless/Wordful Wednesday)

…………………….

What’s a blogger to do when she finds herself totally unprepared on yet another Wordless Wednesday? She reaches into the deepest, darkest crevices of her family photo album vault once more and pulls out one of these….

I was a dork

Further proof that I was a complete dork.

It’s okay, go ahead and laugh.

Sixth grade was an awkward time for me.

My girl friends filled out their training bras. I didn’t.

My girl friends had great hair. I didn’t.

My girl friends had teeth that were actually in proportion to the size of their head. Obviously, I didn’t.

My high school years weren’t all that great as far as developing into a more mature young lady.

I still didn’t fill out my bra.

I still didn’t have great hair.

And my teeth, well, they finally looked proportionate to my head.

Believe it or not, I still feel like the dorky little 6th grader in this photo. Big teeth and all…

…………………….

Thank you so much for linking up with me at Live and Love Out Loud. I’ve been busy enjoying each and every moment left of my children’s summer vacation so chances are you did not receive a visit from me for the last two weeks. While I wish that I could make it to your sites each week, I just can’t and I feel terribly about that. I sure hope you’ll understand.

bcIMthemommy (29 comments) twitter: @bcIMthemommy

Ahh…middle school… It SUCKED! I don’t know anyone who thought they had it together in middle school–even the ones everyone thought did. Really brave of you–I’d sooner lop off an arm than post my 6th grade class photo.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Well if you ever have a change of heart, let me know. I’d love to see your 6th grade pic! :)

mom2kiddos (12 comments) twitter: @kiddothings

You’ve morphed into such a beautiful butterfly today. I was a complete dork too and I don’t think I’d have the courage to share my dorky photo online…haha!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, well aren’t you sweet?!? Thank you. :)

Satakieli (58 comments) twitter: @satakieli

oh I love it. I’m so glad there’s no photographic evidence of me at that age.

(I’m also so glad I’m not the only one who STILL feels like an awkward dorky kid)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

You are so not alone. I feel like a dorky, flat-chested kid all the time! lol

Savvy (11 comments) twitter: @SavvyPracticali

Kristi,
I think we all feel that way about one childhood photo or another, Hell I don’t think I take good photos now, in fact I HATE to be in front of the camera instead of behind it.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I hate being in front of the camera too! I’m so self-conscious of my dorkiness. lol

Vivien (36 comments) twitter: @VivInterrupted

I think you look adorable!!! And I love dorks :-)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Haha! Thanks. Too bad you weren’t a teenage boy back in 1986. ;)

Honey Mommy (34 comments)

Know what? I hated high school and junior high. I was overweight, had a gap in my front teeth and had no self confidence. I actually look tons better now than I did in high school! I weight 60 lbs less, have straight teeth and I feel great!

The fun thing is that often when I see people from high school I am amazed at how much they have changed (and not for the better!). Now I don’t mind that high school was my “ugly” time. It’s much better to get better with age!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I totally agree. I look back on my old photos and just laugh. Thank goodness I grew out of my dorkiness, on the outside at least. lol

Uyen (55 comments)

You look sooooo cute. I actually see a lot of you in your kids. They definitely have some of your features!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, that’s so sweet of you to say. Though my kids would probably be mortified. Thankfully, they’ve inherited my non-dorky traits. :)

mizhelle (32 comments) twitter: @annmarice

that is cute! Way soo much better than mine heheh

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I don’t believe you. Maybe you need to post some proof. ;) Kidding…

Kerri (2 comments) twitter: @SavvyMomNYC

You are BRAVE! I don’t know if I want to dig that far back – lol!
You are beautiful!

Ashley Sisk (77 comments)

Awwww I think you’re adorable!

No, not a dork, just cute :)

That picture WAS supposed to be for the motion entry, it’s even named motion! Not sure I’ll find the time to write a post for it, though :(

I need to scan in some of my old pictures and share them, such a fun idea, Kristi! And thanks for stopping by. Seems like summer is crazy for everyone, so please don’t sweat it :)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

It’s no problem. You actually don’t even need to do a separate post. Just link it up anyway if you have time. :)
And you should totally scan some of your old pics! I’d love to see what you looked like when you were younger!

dysfunctonal mom (34 comments)

awww! We all have those awkward periods, but I think you are absolutely lovely now!!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, you’re so sweet! Thank you. :)

Lolo (1 comments)

You are not a dork! You should have seen my perm that I rocked in 6th grade!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I would love to see that! :)

You certainly don’t look Dorky..but adorable.

noelle (28 comments) twitter: @jumpinbeans09

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Thank you Madz. That’s really sweet of you to say. :)

rohan (10 comments) twitter: @365thingstododc

Dork(ish) for a few early years!

Beautiful now. Winning :-)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Winning? Haha! Thanks for the compliment, Rohan. :)

alissa apel (38 comments)

I really truly do not think you look like a dork.

Jennifer (37 comments) twitter: @BFLife

Aawww! I feel your pain! I had to wear bifocal glasses AND headgear from grades 6 to 8. Talk about AWKWARD! By the time I got to 9th, I got my braces off and got contact lenses – let’s just say it was a ‘butterfly’ moment! :-)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Butterfly moment? Love it! I can imagine how great you felt once the headgear and bifocal glasses were gone. :)

Amy (93 comments) twitter: @babybabylemon

Cutie! You couldn’t pay me one million dollars to post my 6th grade picture online.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Darn! I would’ve loved to have seen one of your old pics, Amy. :(

Evelyn (2 comments)

I personally think it’s a GREAT idea to post an old picture like this…I’m totally going to do it!

And by the way, I think you looked cute, and my gosh, you certainly are gorgeous now, so it all worked out!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, you’re so sweet. Let me know when you do post one of your old pics. I’d love to see it! :)

Mrs. Marine (63 comments) twitter: @mrsmarine

Sixth grade was/is awkward for everyone!!! LOL! I didn’t fill out a bra until after High School… Cute picture!! :)

Aloha! Mrs. Marine
& the Tiny Troops

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Oh my goodness. We might be twins. Same thing here with the bra! lol

It’s a sweet picture. :-) And you really are lovely now, so all’s well that ends well! Thanks for the linky!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, you’re too sweet Christine. :) Thanks for linking up!

Annie @ Mama Dweeb (56 comments) twitter: @MamaDweeb

LOL!!! Oh this was great! I totally have photos just that bad – except my mom cut my hair. oh it was BAD. And I too still feel like a dorky 6th grader most days!

Amanda (11 comments) twitter: @uwmomma

Oh my goodness! I think you were pretty cute :)
I had the loooongest awkward phase that stretched from 4th grade all the way through high school, so I think I have a soft spot for awkward childhood pictures!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

4th grade through high school? Wow. lol

Katie @Pinke Post (40 comments) twitter: @katpinke

I was so much worse in 6th grader. Dorks unite. I linked up and have a linky today also. I decided to show a “classy” side of the prairie today in “Back where I come from”. Oh my.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Haha! Dorks unite!

Maya (139 comments) twitter: @MarfMom

that’s a cute picture! i was still getting mistaken for a boy in 6th grade. that continued till high school, haha.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Um, my body looked like a boy’s throughout high school! lol

Stephanie @ The Blue Zoo (39 comments) twitter: @TheBlueZoo

I think EVERYONE felt like a dork in 6th grade!

I felt like a dork all the way through highschool, heck – Im STILL a dork. And Im cool with that.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I definitely still feel like a dork too!

[...] live and love…out loud [...]

Amanda Gordon (5 comments)

Actually I think this is one of the cutest pictures I have seen for quite a while (no kidding). Far from being a dork, I think you looked amazing.

DaenelT (36 comments) twitter: @DaenelT

You were cute! I suspect we’re always our own harshest critics.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

We are definitely our own harshest critics!

Kristi - Moms Own Words (10 comments) twitter: @kristiannm

You should see my pic. at that age. All I can say is thank God for braces in my case. You look like a little kid with a big heart. Happy WW! Thanks for the linky! Link up at my blog anytime!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Yes, I had a big heart, big teeth and a flat chest. lol

Run DMT (113 comments) twitter: @denisermt

You were such a cutie! Were you petite? You look little, but it could just be the photo. Those were some awkward years for me too. It took some time for me to grow into myself. I think it’s hard when other girls mature and develop at a faster rate. You feel so left behind, but in the end, I think it helps us learn to love ourselves and our body.

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Yes, I was almost always the shortest kid in class and I was thin too. And you’re right, it is hard when other girls mature and develop at a faster rate. There was a boy who constantly teased my lack of boobs for years. I still cringe when I see his face or hear his name.

Tricia (35 comments) twitter: @NolaTricia

Thx for the linky. Everyone has awkward school pics, especially around 6th grade. Yours is cute! Mine are staying in the attic. There were bangs (very tall bangs) & braces!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Haha! That sounds like my high school pics. Big bangs and braces! :)

Nancy (26 comments) twitter: @Nancy_Claeys

Totally understand about making time for your kidlets. In the grand scheme of things, that is definitely more important. Have fun with the rest of your summer, Kristi.

You’re so funny!

Theresa (7 comments) twitter: @amountainmomma

Oh, you are so cute. I love your teeth and dorkiness…

Awwww! You’re a cutie! Then and now. And being a dork isn’t so bad – you’re amongst good company, as Princess Nagger and I claim to be dorks, too! ;)

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Awesome. Dorks unite!

Verena (87 comments) twitter: @vbeautifulworld

Aww, look at you! You were so cute! I know how you felt as a child. I was a little chubby and wore glasses and I hated myself. I´m still working on myself not to think that way anymore.
And Kristi, look at you today! You are a real beauty!!!
Happy WW! ;D
Much Love,
Verena

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, thanks Verena! Look who’s talking! You’ve grown into a beautiful woman yourself. :)

Secret Mom Thoughts (92 comments)

You were very cute in 6th grade.

There’s not a one among us who doesn’t have something awkward, so we’re all dorks!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

That means that I’m in good company! ;)

Good Girl Gone Green (45 comments) twitter: @GGirlGGreen

I am pretty sure if I pull out my 6th grade pictures, I will look a little awkward too!

Emily (2 comments) twitter: @naptimeismytime

Your photo makes me {almost} want to find my sixth grade photos!

Thanks for hosting the linky, I’m a new follower!

Best,
Emily from Nap Time Is My Time

Lauren @ Hobo Mama (45 comments) twitter: @Hobo_Mama

I hear you, but I think you just look sweet. :) I don’t know if I’m brave enough to post my sixth-grade photos.

alicia (233 comments) twitter: @projectalicia

You were such an adorable 6th grader. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s an awkward time for everyone! There’s no way you’re seeing mine. lol.

Angie K. (4 comments) twitter: @yeahhappy

Ahh the pre-teen, teen years. So glad they didn’t last long but when you in the midst of them they seem to go on forever, don’t they? I think it just helps to be better/more sympathetic moms to especially our daughters when they go through it too.

Kelly Tirman (12 comments) twitter: @kellytirman

You are and have always been beautiful.

RachelJoy (17 comments)

This is timeless. The more awkward we were, the more beautiful we’ve become =)

ICStarzz (4 comments) twitter: @ICStarzz

haha, that’s cute :) I don’t even want to pull out my photos, lol

I think it’s a wonderful picture! I also think most people think they’re awkward in 6th grade. I have a daughter about to start 6th grade – we’ll see how it goes!

Tracy (2 comments) twitter: @nystoopmama

Awww! I think you look adorable- look at that sweet smile!

Melanie (11 comments)

OMGoodness! You were sooooo adrorable! Love this,

BusyWorkingMama (31 comments)

LOL I love it!!

tori nelson (1 comments)

It’s not so bad. Of course, I might be a little biased. 6th Grade just so happened to be the year I accidentally shaved my eyebrows off. Dorky is all relative, see?

Elaine (24 comments) twitter: @elainea

Oh girl, your 6th grade pic is STILL better than mine! And you are gorgeous then and now!

Thanks for sharing. I love old school pics! :D
