Crazy Days of Summer Week Two: Refreshing

Living in a small, rural town has its advantages. No traffic. Wide open spaces. Natural beauty. A relaxing, laid-back way of life. And a slew of outdoor activities that are guaranteed to beat the summer heat and provide hours of fun for those oh-so-bored kids.

Like swimming and playing in the Roubidoux Creek here in small town Missouri.

My kids certainly had a blast during our recent trip down to the creek. Wading through the water…

Catching tadpoles….

Hitching rides…

Let's swim!

It was a great, refreshing way to spend our hot summer day here in small town Missouri.

I love splashing in creeks and swimming in rivers, it reminds me of my childhood. We always used to jump from bridges (into a river of course) or attached a wooden plank at the bridge and did ‘river surfing’. And our parents didn’t like this at all, of course. ;-)

What great photos. The water is so clear and beautiful! It reminds me of the spring fed creek that we used to swim in by our house. Although that tadpole was huge, the ones we found were much smaller! I’d have to say my favorite shot is the pretty green leaf and all of the ripples. Have a great weekend!

The tadpoles were creeping me and my 2 year old out a bit. She’s not a fan of anything creepy-crawly or squirmy. lol The creek by your house sounds lovely! :)

oh I am so jealous!!! In NJ we had a heat wave the past few days so the kids and I have been in the house at the mercy of our ac unit! : )

catching tadpoles!!!!
what fun memories!!!!!

I grew-up spending Summers creek-exploring in Florida, and have fond memories still! What a great experience for your kiddos. :)

My three would be f-r-eaking out over tadpoles, I’m afraid they think everything in a creek is now a leech, and they refuse to even dip their toes in the water.

Great pics!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Haha! My 2 year old totally freaked out over the tadpoles. We had to distract her from noticing all of the fish swimming around her feet. lol We had a great time though. I’m glad that my kids can experience summers by the creek. It’s nothing like the Hawaiian beaches of my youth, but it’ll do. ;)

liz (155 comments)

Aaaah, the simple life! That’s what it should be all about, right?

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Aw, thanks Amy! That brings a smile to my face. :)

Audrey's mom (7 comments) twitter: @toddleraudrey

This reminds me of Spring Creek back in Oklahoma. Loved playing in it every summer as a kid. Missouri is not too far from us, we should plan a trip! And your children are beautiful!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Spring Creek? I took a photo of an abandoned barn here in Missouri last summer that had “Spring Creek” painted above the barn doors. It was the prettiest, broken-down abandoned barn I’ve ever seen. :) Maybe you should come on down and see it. ;)

I love your site!Love those little clear creeks out in the country!these photos scream refreshing!! Gorgeous Kristi!!
