Crazy Days of Summer Week One: Flowers

Summer is in full swing here in small town Missouri and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m basking in the warmth of the summer sun and gearing up for two months of uninterrupted summer vacation bliss with my husband and children. We’re looking forward to a laid-back summer and have no plans to head out of town. No worries though, there’s so much to see and do right here in our own backyard.

Like getting in touch with nature.

I’ve spent the last few weeks hard at work in my garden; weeding, digging, hoeing, transplanting. I’ve never had a garden of my own and I’ve never really successfully grown anything. So imagine my surprise when my rose bushes produced – wait for it – roses!

Crazy Days of Summer, Week One: Flowers

They look nothing like the roses you’d find in a flower shop, but the butterflies and bees who frequent my garden don’t seem to mind.

Crazy Days of Summer, Week One: Flowers

I may never have flower shop-worthy roses in my garden, but that’s more than alright with me. The sun is shinning, the bees are buzzing and these roses are mine. All mine.

…………………….

I’m thrilled to be teaming up with the fabulous Alicia of Project Alicia for the Crazy Days of Summer Photo Challenge – a super fun weekly summer photography meme aimed at capturing the lazy crazy days of summer, complete with inspirational themes. We’d love for you to grab your camera and join in the fun!

Here’s what you need to know:

Share your favorite images inspired by the Crazy Days of Summer theme-of-the-week and grab our sweet button while you’re at it!

Live and Love Out Loud

Please share your photos with others by linking directly to your Crazy Days of Summer blog post or Flickr photo, not your blog’s home page or Flickr Photostream. Feel free to share your photos in our Crazy Days of Summer Flickr Group as well.

The linky will remain open from 12:00am Friday – 11:59pm Wednesday.

Make a few new friends by visiting and commenting on the previous entry in the linky list.

Each Thursday, a few of our favorite images from the Crazy Days of Summer Photo Challenge will be selected and featured at Project Alicia and Live and Love Out Loud.

Next week’s theme will be “refreshing.” For a complete list of upcoming themes, head on over to the Summer Photo Challenge page.

Alicia and I are so excited about sharing our crazy days of summer with you and can’t wait to see your photos. Don’t forget to stop by Alicia’s blog, (Project Alicia), after linking up here at Live and Love Out Loud. Her photography is amazing!

Thank you! If you’re interested, I used textures from http://textureshop.blogspot.com/ Really reasonable prices! And the butterflies… We’ve really enjoyed having them in the yard. My 2 year old giggles and tries to catch them. lol I loved your iris photo, by the way. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Ahhh! It looks lovely! Unfortunately it is winter here in South Africa in the southern hemisphere. I would have loved to take part, but I don’t think a Crazy Days of Summer button would work on my blog right now ;-) Enjoy Summer! In a few months it is our turn again :D

I love your blog!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Thank you so much Mary! I’ve already stopped by your place this morning. You are too stinkin’ sweet. :)

I like roses just fine, but I adore the “wild” roses grown in a regular garden quite a bit! There is just something about their fluffy petals that makes them look so soft and comforting. Beautiful photos!

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

I’d have to agree with you Becky, but mostly because I lack the skill to grow those perfect roses you find in the flower shop. lol By the way, I loved the day lily pics you posted in your Crazy Days of Summer post. I hope you’ll join us for the next challenge on Friday. It’ll be “refreshing.” Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great day! :)

Yolanda (4 comments)

Thanks for becoming a follower. I saw that you lived in MO, me too, you lived in Hawaii, me too??

Kristi (3460 comments) twitter: @TweetingMama

Oh my goodness, what a small world! I was born and raised in Hawaii; my family and friends all live there. I moved to the mainland in 2002 and go back home to visit as often as I can and my family and friends come up to visit as well. Life in small town (very rural) Missouri is very different, but we’re really enjoying it. Were you born and raised in Hawaii too? Do you still live in Missouri? What part? Tons of questions… lol

Yolanda (4 comments)

I was born and raised in South St. Louis, left when I was 18 to join the USN. That’s how I ended up in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor. I met my hubby there and we had 3 of our kids there. We were there for 10 years and I miss it so much. That is definately a big change – Hawaii to Mo! When I link up to Alicia does it automatically link up to yours? or should I link to yours and hers? Nice chatting with you, I will be back! Do you know why my picture doesn’t post on here?

How funny! My husband was born and raised (until middle school) in south Saint Louis. :)

Alicia and I both share the linky so you’ll only need to link up at one of our blogs, but feel free to stop by and say hi to us both if you have time. As far as your photo goes, you need to have a gravatar account for it to appear in the comments area.
